A paper-making machine includes a foraminous cylinder 10 rotatable about a horizontal axis, a stock-receiving chamber 25 having one wall formed by the ascending side of the cylinder, the wall forming a filtering area, an hydraulic circuit arranged to feed stock at a constant rate of flow to an inlet 6 irrespective of the rate of flow of stock drawn onto the filtering area, and to draw off excess stock for recycling, at overflow 12, the system also including a free-surface, variable-pressure deaeration chamber 5 upstream of the flow division point 8. The deaeration chamber is preferably at a higher level than the level of flow division 8. Flow-evener roll 9 may be placed upstream of, at, or downstream of the flow division point 8. Recycle via line 16 is controlled by the overflow level in 14. Barrier 7 may be adjusted in direction X-X or angularly about O. Pipe 21 recycles pulp and white water.
