Sheets are separated from a stack 11, supported on edge, and deposited in a horizontal position on a conveyer 12 by suction elements 10 supported on frames 6, 7, 8 and 9 for intermittent movement around a closed circuit. The frames are pulled around the circuit on chains 1, Fig. 3, which chains engage only the leading edges of the frames, the trailing edges being guided by rollers 31 engaging groove 32 in a panel 19. Suction supply originates from a rotating distributer shaft 13 and associated hoses 17. The separators may be extended towards the stack for gripping a sheet and retracted as the associated frame moves them away from the stack. ,Air jets may be associated with the suction devices for easing deposition of a sheet on conveyer 12. The apparatus may be employed to separate sheets simultaneously from two adjacent stacks 11, 11<SP>1</SP>, Fig. 2, The stack(s) may be supported on conveyers to forward sheets to the separation point.</p> |
