A brake pad assembly 32 for a vehicle disc brake as described in Specification 1,262,263, comprises a block of friction material secured to a backing plate, the backing plate having in the region of each of its opposite ends a pair of abutment faces formed on projecting portions 36, 36A which faces co-operate with guiding surfaces 34 of a caliper: the backing plate and the block extend beyond and between each pair of projecting portions 36, 36A. The disc brake comprises a caliper structure formed by two opposed halves each having a mutually abutting joint surface parallel to the plane of the disc, the caliper halves being disposed respectively on opposite sides of the disc and the structure including a bridge portion straddling the disc, and wherein each caliper half is formed with guide surfaces 34 perpendicular to the plane of the disc for guiding a respective one of the pad assemblies 32.</p> |
