PROCESS FOR ATOMIZING A LIQUID, AND A DEVICE FOR CARRYING OUT THE PROCESS

The liquid to be atomized (1) is fed on to an open-pore contact body (2) and driven by a gas through the pore channels, thus forming small, continuously bursting bubbles on the surface (5) of the contact body. This produces small droplets which are swept away by the carrier gas. With mixtures of liquids giving fractions of different boiling points, heating the contact body evaporates the low-boiling fraction, the vapour thus produced generating, from the remaining liquid, the bubbles which burst on the surface of the contact body. This process makes it possible to atomize a liquid even at low mass flows and with relatively low power consumption.
