A cylindrical plastics cover (3) snapped over a two-part base (2) protects three supports (6-8) for the outer ends and junction of two fusible conductors (11, 14). The lower conductor (11) is surrounded by air or vacuum (17). The upper fusible conductor (14) is enveloped in a mass of synthetic quenching material (16). The conductors (11, 14) are soldered (12, 15) between their respective supports. The two parts of the base (2) are fitted together before the quenching material (16) is introduced. ADVANTAGE - A simple device with selectably high, medium or low inertia and large rupturing capacity can be mass-produced in considerable quantities.
