PURPOSE:To perform an image output at high speed without refilling a thin ink when a multi-value image is formed using dense and thin inks to improve a degree of freedom in operating a device by a method wherein when the impossibility of conducting recording using a low-density ink is judged, a binary recording is conducted using a high-density ink of the same color. CONSTITUTION:Based on the output of a sensor 12, the presence or absence of thin inks (C'', M'', Y'', BK'') of Cyan (C), Magenta (M), Yellow (Y), and Black (BK) is judged. If said ink is absent, a corresponding message is indicated. After that, the presence or absence of each single ink C, M, Y, and BK is judged again. If the judged result is positive, a table of a corresponding factor of masking (a matrix arithmetic processing for correcting the turbidity of color at the time of overlapping inks) is set to a multi-value printing. If the judged result is negative, it is set to a binary printing, and a binary printing indicator 121 is lighted. In this manner, in place of an exhaused thin ink a corresponding dense ink is used for conducting a binary printing. |
