An optical scanning arrangement contains a laser, an anamorphotic beam propagator, a periodic deflector, a scanning lens, a photosensitive receiver arrangement (10) for the light from a scanning light spot and an evaluation circuit. The receiver arrangement contains adjacent receiver elements (11). A lens (12) in the receiver beam path associates the scanning (13) and receiver (14) plane images. A deflector (16) displaces the scanning motion of the receiver element images so that the light spot (17) illuminates them. USE/ADVANTAGE - Linewise scanning of rapidly moving materials transversely w.r.t. feed direction, ensuring good resolution in feed direction.
