Felt sole for indoor shoes - has sprayed plastics tread sole for improved wear and weather resistance

The sole (2) which is connected to the upper (1) is made from flet or felt-like material and has an additional tread sole (3) of plastics. The conventional shoe upper including the welt is placed with a blank of felt material of suitable size for the sole into a machine mould. Pressure and heat are applied to shape the felt material in the mould round the welt and round the area of the upper adjoining the welt. Without opening the mould, a conventional plastics used for shoe soles is sprayed onto the surface of the felt remote from the welt so that after cooling an additional fixed tread sole is attached to the felt. Once the shoe is removed from the machine mould, the felt sole is fixed to the shoe upper pref. by stitching. USE/ADVANTAGE - The sole of a shoe is made from a breathable material with good heat-retaining properties but is wear-resistant and weather- proof.
