Rapidly measuring water content of solid fuel e.g. lignite - by performing fluorescent analysis of mineral component in moist and dried specimen

A method of rapidly determining the water content of solid fuel contg. ash with at least one mineral component involves extracting at least one representative, finely granulated moist specimen and measuring the mineral component by fluorescent analysis. The specimen is then dried and the fluorescent analysis repeated for the same component. The water content is determined from the two measurement values. The specimen can be divided and the two steps performed with at least some overlap. USE/ADVANTAGE - The water content of lignite is measured rapidly and with adequate accuracy without complicated treatment of lignite.
