The invention concerns a microprocessor with a watchdog circuit which monitors the correct progress of the processor programme. The watchdog circuit must be addressed at given time intervals by the microprocessor since it will otherwise execute an operation such as resetting the microprocessor to the beginning of the programme. In order to symplify the design, it is proposed that, when an error function recognized by the microprocessor (2) occurs, the microprocessor (2) addresses a specific error command to the watchdog circuit (5) which triggers the initiation of a reset function by the watchdog circuit (5).
