METHOD FOR APPLYING A WEAR-RESISTANT COATING

A method for applying a wear-resistant coating by condensation of a substance under ion bombardment on articles of spherical shape, which provides for charging those spherical articles into a bowl-shaped container made of an electroconducting material and preliminarily heated up to a temperature exceeding the temperature of the articles reached as a result of their bombardment by the ions of the evaporated material of the cathode by 80 to 100 DEG C, whereas the container is placed in a sealed chamber after evacuation of which the container is brought into rotation at periodically changing speed so as to provide for quasi-Brownian movement of the spherical articles during the whole process of their cleaning, heating and applying on them of the wear-resistant coating of a desired thickness.
