Plant for extracting metallic lead from sulphidic lead concentrate comprises a vessel (1) whose lower wall serves as a bottom furnace (7). A vertical partition wall (4) dividing the vessel into two chambers (5,6). One chamber serves as a melt chamber (5) into which the concentrate, oxygen and a solid reducing agent is supplied, while the other (6) is an electrothermic chamber with electrodes (13). The novelty is that the wall (4) is positioned so that the cross-sectional area S1 of the electrothermic chamber (6) is related to that S2 of the vessel (1) by a mathematical relationship as (I). ADVANTAGE - A higher degree of lead extraction is achieved while limiting energy consumption.
