The ventilation device for a kitchen hobb has a vertically displaceable hood and counterweight means. Interacting guide and holder elements (12, 13,) are attached above the hood (10, 11) to same and to a locally fixed part (16). The equilibrium is produced by at least one gas spring (15) which can be operated as the hood moves. Locally fixed vertical rails (13) cam be provided to hold rollers (12) attached to the hood. The gas spring can engage on the hood and on the locally fixed part (16). USE/ADVANTAGE - Compact guide retaining elements. Without the need for similar elements at the back of the kitchen wall.
