An electrical lifting tube (10) has metal contact caps (11) that fit over the ends of the glass body. The light output from the filament (12) is distributed uniformly. The supply of electrical power to the tube is provided by a pair of electrical bus-bars (14). The connection between the rigid bus-bars and the tube is provided by coil springs (20) with ends that locate in holes in the caps (16,17). The arrangement can be varied to have a number of tubes coupled in series. ADVANTAGE - Provides illumination along complete length yet allows swinging out at either end.
