PURPOSE:To prevent incorrect discharge in a vacuum vessel and to obtain a stable laser output by providing the vessel electrically insulated from electrodes on the outer periphery of a tube for forming a discharger. CONSTITUTION:In a metal vapor laser device, the hermetical seal of a discharger is held by a cathode flange 16, an anode flange 17, a window 8 and an inner tube 5. A vacuum vessel 19 is provided on the outer periphery of an insulator 6 provided on the outer periphery of the tube 5. Since the vessel 19 is mounted coaxially with a main discharge, the inductance of an electrode tube is extremely small, and even if counterelectromotive force of the inductance of the vessel 19 is generated by the flow of a current, its amplitude is very small. Accordingly, it is not necessary to maintain a vacuum layer 11 in high vacuum to prevent an incorrect discharge, but the degree of vacuum for preventing thermal conduction may be sufficient. Even if the vessel 19 is heated and discharge gas is generated therein, its performance is not lost for a long period of time, but stable laser output is obtained. |
