PURPOSE:To achieve good mass productivity and stabilize quality such as electron radiating property of an electron cathode tube by forming a sintered layer of a nickel powder containing scandium oxide on a metal substrate and forming an electron radiating layer on the sintered layer. CONSTITUTION:Scandium oxide 6b is added to a nickel powder 6a, the resultant powder is added to a specific organic solvent to give a suspension, and then the suspension is sprayed to a metal substrate 1. Then, by thermal treatment in hydrogen or vacuum atmosphere, a sintered layer 6 of a nickel powder 6a containing a scandium oxide 6b is formed on the metal substrate. An electron radiating material is applied to the sintered layer 6 by a method for example spraying. Due to this simple process, productivity is improved. Owing to the sintered layer, the layer has sufficient porosity and thus a reductive metal is easily diffused to the electron radiating layer 5 from the metal substrate 1 and dispersion of initial electron radiating property is decreased. |
