PURPOSE:To enable skip processing in a magnetic disk device without applying any limit to a host device by detecting the ineffective area of a selected data track and controlling the read/write of normal data according to the presence and absence of this ineffective area. CONSTITUTION:A medium ineffective area skip control circuit 100 is provided to stop the write of the normal data when an ineffective area VOID is detected on a selected data track 1a, to restart the write of normal data Di-Do after the ineffective area VOID is passed, to stop the read of the normal data when the ineffective area VOID is detected and to restart the read of the normal data Do-Di after the ineffective area VOID is passed. Accordingly, it is not necessary for the magnetic disk device to be conscious of the physically ineffec tive area on the data track 1a and embedded servo information can be used on the data track 1a without applying any limit on data write/read logical operation to a host device 90 at all. Thus, the recording density of the magnetic disk device is increased and capacity can be enlarged. |
