PURPOSE: To supply a joint to a patient with gas warmed up closer to body temperature and provide the gas with a saturated or nearly saturated amount of humidity by humidifying the gas flowing through a porous member with the vapor supplied through a vapor permeable wall. CONSTITUTION: A porous member 32 has an upper rectangular sheet 26, of which lower edge 28 is put glued to either a rear wall or the upper edge of a layer 30 of foaming sandwich material 34. The foaming sandwich material 34 has a foaming middle layer 36. Water is injected into a container 10 through an opening 14. When connected with a respiratory system, gas flows from an inlet tube 18 through the porous member 32 into an outlet tube 20. As the rear wall 30 of the porous member 32 is permeable to vapor, the vapor is able to come in the foaming material channels from the inside of an outer container while liquefied water is blocked out. Respiratory gas from the inlet 18 is as well able to come in the container 10 through the rear wall 30. A humidifier is equipped with a means to heat up the water in the container, which is formed as a packet 16 containing chemical material causing exothermic reaction with water so that the packet generates heat when put in the water. |
