PURPOSE:To further shorten the time required for generating dot data by omitting the data conversion extending from vector data to dot data even in the case dot data for showing an output character whose output condition is different is stored. CONSTITUTION:In the case the same dot data as dot data derived by a V/D converting means is stored in a dot data storage means, and in the case fundamental dot data for showing an output character whose output condition is different from that of an output character shown by the dot data to be derived is stored, the conversion by the V/D data converting means is omitted. In the case of the latter, dot data corresponding to a designated character is derived by changing the fundamental dot data. This change is simpler than the conversion to dot data from vector data, therefore, the time required for generating the dot data is further shortened.
