<p>PURPOSE: To make a steering gear compact to enhance the effective space within a vehicle by providing a rack member and a startable driving means for rotating a pinion gear so as to move the rack axially to a housing. CONSTITUTION: One shaft end part 54 of a housing 52 is pivoted to the frame member 32 of a vehicle. The shaft end 84 of a rack member is pivoted to the spindle 88 of a wheel 22 by a ball socket joint 86. The spindle is rotated around an axial line A to steer the wheel 22. The rack member 82 is movable axially relative to the housing 52 along the longitudinal central axial line B of the housing. When the rack member 82 is axially moved to the housing 52, the spindle 88 is rotated about the axial line A to rotate the wheel 22. A pinion gear 102 is supported in a part of the housing 52 so as to rotate about an axial line D. When the pinion gear 102 is rotated, the rack member 82 is moved relative to the housing 52.</p> |
