The present invention relates to racemic and optically active diester derivatives of cis-octahydroindolo[2,3-a]quinolizine of formula I, <IMAGE> in which: R1 and R2 are independently an alkyl group having 1 to 4 carbon atoms and R3 is a -CH2OH group, and to optically active cis compounds of formula I in which R1 and R2 are as defined above and R3 is a hydrogen atom, and to their acid addition salts, and to a process for the preparation of these compounds.
