PURPOSE:To provide a small-sized light ball spline device which can support high torque at time of overload by interposing cylindrical rollers having a diameter a little smaller than that of the ball between a shaft of the device and both ball rolling grooves of an outer cylinder. CONSTITUTION:A ball spline device includes a plurality of ball rolling grooves 2, 4 axially extended on the outer surface of a shaft 1 and the inner surface of an outer cylinder 3, the opposed grooves 2, 4 being provided with many rolling balls 5 therein. Cylindrical rollers 6 having an outside diameter a little smaller than that of the ball 5 are disposed in the ball rolling grooves 2, 4. A retaining device 7 interposed between the shaft 1 and the outer cylinder 3 is adapted to separate the ball 5 from the cylindrical roller 6. Thus, even if the maximum torque is larger than a common torque, or excessive torque acts upon the device, torque transmission can be accomplished safely. |
