A brake actuator has force applying means 12 actuated by a rotary actuator shaft and arranged to separate opposed tappets 14, 15 to actuate braking elements 1, 2. Each tappet 14, 15 includes a pair of threadedly engaged members 14A, 14C and 15A, 15C which are relatively rotatable to enable the length of each tappet to be adjusted. Adjuster control means 20 are operable to vary the length of one of the tappets and transmission means interconnects the tappets to effect a corresponding variation in length of the other tappet. The transmission means 21, illustrated as a ring gear, lies within the actuator housing 9 at a location adjacent the axially inner end of the force applying means and cooperates with both tappets 14, 15 to transmit adjusting movement of one tappet to the other. |
