(-)-(m-Chloro alpha-methylphenethyl)sulphamide of formula (I) - Salts of (I) with strong bases are included. - (I) has anticonvulsive, sedative and narcotic properties. It may also be used as intermediate in the prepn. of other medicaments. - 36.5 g of (-) m-Chloro alpha-methylphenethylamine are added dropwise at 125 deg.C to a melt of 41.3 g sulphamide and the mixture is stirred for 1 hour at this temp. leading N2 through the vessel. After cooling 200 ml 2 N HCl is added and strongly stirred for 30 mins. The mixture is extracted with 3 X 125 ml of methylenechloride which are worked up and the residue is recrystallised from 150 ml diisopropylether and then from toluene to give (I).
