This invention relates to porphyrin-metal complexes of general formula (I), wherein R represents a pivaloyloxy group, M represents an ion of a transition metal of the fourth or fifth period of the periodic table, X represents a halogen ion, and n is 0 or 1. These compounds are useful as a stable artificial oxygen carrier which does not undergo oxidative degradation.
