The invention concerns a machine for controlling leaks and the proper opening and closing of the valve of a bottle of liquefied gas. The equipment for detecting leaks comprises a bell-shaped unit 126 fitting leaktightly on the wall of the bottle 10 around the valve 132, the chamber of which is connected to a fluid system capable of detecting and indicating very small gas leaks, and a key fitted so as to turn inside the bell-shaped unit and able to work in conjunction with the hand wheel of the valve to open or close it. This key can be made to turn by a motor 144 developing a pre-determined torque. The system for controlling the opening and closing comprises a cam 172 driven by the motor 144 and capable of operating a pick-up when the valve turns freely.
