PURPOSE:To provide a recording apparatus capable of prolonging the length of a recording line in spite of a compact apparatus, having simple constitution and capable of being used as typewriter, constituted so as to enable the change- over of traverse direction recording and longitudinal direction recording with respect to the mounting state of recording paper. CONSTITUTION:The drive signals showing the driving directions and the driving amounts of a paper feed step motor 4 and a carriage driving step motor 14 contained in character pattern data are enabled in changing-over and changed over corresponding to the detection signal of the operation state of a change-over switch 22 by a character direction data converting part 26 and an X-Y data (operation amount) converting art 27. A character pattern generating apparatus separated from a character generating apparatus for traverse direction recording is not required in order to perform longitudinal direction recording and a drive signal interchanging means can be also performed by such simple operation that a bit for showing an operation direction corresponding to a detection signal is reversed or upper four bits and lower four bits are interchanged. |
