PURPOSE:To produce a binding resin for a toner having superior performance with respect to various items by polymerizing a specified polymer in the practical absence of a radical initiator for a polymerizable monomer. CONSTITUTION:A polymer having a peak in the mol. wt. range of 2,000-10,000 and <=3.5 ratio of the wt. average mol. wt. to the number average mol. wt. (Mw/Mn) in the GPC mol. wt. distribution and also having >=50 deg.C glass transition temp. (Tg) is polymerized in the practical absence of a radical initiator for a polymerizable monomer. The resulting polymer is then dissolved in the polymerizable monomer and suspension polymn. is carried out to prepare a resin compsn. contg. 10-70wt.% THF-insoluble component. The THF-soluble component in the resin compsn. has >=5 ratio of Mw/Mn, at least one peak in the mol. wt. range of 2,000-10,000 and at least one peak or shoulder in the mol. wt. range of 15,000-100,000 in the GPC mol. wt. distribution and the resin compsn. contains 10-50wt.% component having <10,000 mol. wt.
