The novel process makes it possible to adapt the tyre tread band pattern to varying road surface conditions, especially to icy or wet surfaces, while largely eliminating the negative effects on the tyre of dirt and icing and at the same time minimising the conversion time. The main feature of the novel process is the facility for adapting the tractive effort distribution of the tyre over different parts of the tread by using the tyre pressure. Adapting the tyre quality to icy road surfaces may, for example, in accordance with the drawing, be produced via the tyre-pressure-controlled projection ( DELTA R) of special studded tyre areas (1.2) by means of pressure increases in tyre chambers (1.3). The air chambers may be activated: (i) with the vehicle stationary or moving, (ii) in a short time, (iii) by manual or automatic controls, e.g. via sensors and the wireless transmission of the sensor pulses (3) through receivers (4) and pulse guides (5), the ignition of gas cartridges (8) or the admission of compressed air from containers inside the wheel (10) controlled by valves (9) and lines (11). Control units (6) facilitate readaptation to changes in road suface conditions. |
