<p>An unsatd. polyester consists of at least one alpha, beta-ethylenically unsatd. dibasic acid and at least one polyhydric alcohol and at least one ethylenically unsatd. liquid monomer. They are prepd. by (a) preparing a reactive mixture of at least one alpha, beta-ethylenically unsatd. dibasic acid and at least one polyhydric alcohol; (b) heating the mixture; (c) dispersing an elastomer in the heated mixture; (d) cooling the dispersion to below the b.p. of the monomer which it is intended to add; (e) mixing the liquid monomer with the dispersion to obtain manageable viscosity; (f) adding filler, stabilisers, dyes; (g) shaping and hardening the polyester compn. so obtained. The products combine good mechanical strength with impact resistance, and resistance to crack formation. Suitable for manufacture of automobile and aircraft components.</p> |
