The rollers (11) and the rolling regions of the bearing plates (2) consist of a material composite which is known per se, an intermetallic joint (6) being made between a working layer (4) of alloyed stainless steel on a base material of engineering steel (5) by hot forging; the working layer (4) is ground after hardening and tempering. The working layer (4) may consist of X 40 Cr 13; it is first shrunk onto the core roller as a shell.
