A depilatory apparatus consists of a series of parallel discs (2) attached to a hub (3) which is rotated by an electric motor, and blades (9) set between the discs and shafts (10) which bring said blades into contact with the periphery (2a) of the discs. The hub (3) has a series of slots (11), in between the discs (2), each of which holds the end of a blade (9). Each shaft (10) also has a series of slots (12) which are open in the direction of the hub slots (11) and which each retains a section of the blade (9). Said slots (11, 12) are shaped in such a way as to allow a pivotal movement of the blades (9) between a position in which they are held away from the discs (2) and one where they are in contact with the discs' periphery (2a).
