PURPOSE:To transform, modify and make harmless asbestos by treating asbestos with an acid while applying mechanical destructive force to asbestos to readily react a basic component of asbestos with the acid in the acid treatment. CONSTITUTION:Asbestos is treated with an acid while applying mechanical destructive force to asbestos. As a method to apply mechanical destructive force to asbestos, any method of acting stress such as shear, compression, tensile stress, etc., on needle-like fibers of asbestos, destroying the needle-like fibers, breaking glassy film consisting essentially of SiO2 on the surface of asbestos or cracking the film may be adopted. Consequently, the acid in the acid treatment is readily permeated into the interior of asbestos, the basic component of asbestos is readily reacted with the acid in the acid treatment, the needle-like fiber of asbestos can be destroyed, dissolved, transformed, modified and made harmless. |
