PURPOSE:To enhance the transfer sharpness to paper to be transferred inferior to smoothness and to reduce the background staining of the paper to be transferred and the detachment of transferred ink from the surface of paper by using a special resin in the surface layer on a heat-meltable ink layer. CONSTITUTION:In a thermal transfer recording medium wherein a heat-meltable ink layer is provided on a support, a surface layer containing a precondensate of a thermosetting resin showing thermoplasticity and having a softening point of 50 deg.C or higher is provided on the heat-meltable ink layer. Said softening point is desirably 120 deg.C or lower. As the pref. precondensate of a thermosetting resin, a precondensate of a thermosetting resin such as a furan resin, a novolac phenol resin, an epoxy resin, a dially phthalate resin or a bismaleimide triazine resin is designated. This thermal transfer recording medium is prepared by successively applying the heat-meltable ink layer and the surface layer to a support by a usual coating method, that is, a hot melt coating method, a solution coating method or an emulsion coating method. |
