Air loaded with particles is driven in rotation by various means 10, 26 in a centrifuging chamber 2 in which the particles collect near its cylindrical wall 4. The upward movement of the particles thus collected is stopped in an extraction zone 36 by a rotating, descending auxiliary layer of gas formed by an injector 42, 44, 46. These particles leave through an orifice 40 and the purified (cleaned) air is sucked through a fan 16. The invention applies especially to the purification of air. <IMAGE>
