The subject matter of the invention is a pile driver ram. The devices employed for equalising instantaneous peaks of the ram shock waves are complicated and expensive. In a pile driver according to the invention the ram comprises two parts 1, 2, which are fitted at least partially one inside the other in such a way that the surface 3 of the one part 2 bearing against the pile is lower down than the surface of the second part 1, so that when the pile is struck by the ram the lower part 2 strikes against the pile first and is compressed whilst the latter part 1 is stretched as a result of the blow. <IMAGE>
