PURPOSE:To obtain the subject fiber having excellent deodorizing, antibacterial, antifungal and wash-resistant properties by treating the surface of a fiber containing a specific bond in the molecular chain with a strong acid, treating the fiber further with an alkaline aqueous solution and adding a polyvalent metal compound to the alkali salt on the surface of the fiber. CONSTITUTION:The surface of a fiber having -NHCO- bond in the molecular chain (e.g. wool, polyamide, polyurethane or polyurea) is treated first with a strong acid and then with an alkaline aqueous solution to form an alkali salt of the strong acid on the fiber surface. A polyvalent metal compound is added to the surface at an equivalent ratio of 1-95% based on the alkali salt on the surface to obtain the objective fiber. The polyvalent metal salt is preferably a mixture of a polyvalent metal compound and a quaternary ammonium salt compound at an equivalent ratio of 5-90% based on the polyvalent metal compound. |
