The invention relates to a method and to an appliance which are intended for facilitating the installation on a pipeline of a component such as a take-off (tapping) or a protective sheath. The applicance comprises a rod 6 equipped with a grip 60 and with a first plate 8, a slider 10 mounted so that it can slide around the rod and to which is fixed a second plate 12, first support means 40 connected to the first plate and receiving one side of the pipeline 2, and second support means 50, 56 connected to the second plate and carrying the component 5 to be installed.
