A coin-operated release mechanism comprises a locking bar 12 co-operating with an article release gate 5, two coin denomination bars 11, 13, having tooth racks co-operating with escapements 21 operated by coins of different denominations to permit longitudinal step-by-step movement of the bars 11, 13 in accordance with the denomination of the inserted coins, locking wires 41, 42 engaging stops 44, 45, on the locking bar to hold the bar in its raised position and adjustable cams 38-40 on the bars 11, 13 for disengaging the locking wires from the locking bar. The locking wire 42 extends across both bars 11, 13, whereby it may be disengaged from the locking bar 12 on movement of bar 11 or 13, whereas locking wire 41 extends across bar 11 alone and can only be disengaged from locking bar 12 on movement of bar 11. In this way the release mechanism can be arranged so as not to operate merely on insertion of a number of low denomination coins of the required value but only where insertion of required value contains at least one high value coin. A plate 16 attached to the gate 5 through a rod 15 and spring 15a, moves vertically on the opening of the gate to reset the bars 11-13. A change giving mechanism 55 mounted on the frame 1 is operated from the bar 11 through a lever system 49-54. Coin-action.-Each coin channel 7a, 7b/8a, 8b is adapted to receive two coin denominations and guide the coins over one or two trip wires 22, 23 or 24, 25 according to its value and move the appropriate locking bar 11, 13 one or two steps. The cams 38-40 are adjustable along the locking bars according to the price of the article to be vended. |
