1,184,755. Two-part couplings. MOLEX PRODUCTS CO. 13 June, 1968 [25 March, 1968], No. 28056/68. Heading H2E. A connector housing 16 has a plurality of spaced-apart apertures 38 in a side wall 22, and a slot 42 in its upper face 26 for receiving a printed circuit board having copper strip conductors 12 on its far side, as shown. A plurality of terminals 44 is inserted into the spaced-apart apertures and each is held in position by a resilient detent 62 which abuts against an indentation (78) in the housing, (Fig. 4, not shown). Each terminal is formed from sheet metal, e.g. phosphor-bronze, and comprises a leading, substantially U-shaped, end portion 46, and a trailing end portion 48. The trailing end portion 48 comprises crimping means for connection to a supply lead 60, and when in the fully inserted position is shielded by an extension 47 of the housing, to prevent short circuiting. The leading end portion comprises a first upstanding leg 64, with a stop-plate 70 to abut against the far wall 24 of the housing 16, and a bowed-inwardly-facing contact portion 66, divided into two parallel strips by a central slot 68. A second leg 72 partially prevents the access of foreign matter. Release of the terminal is effected by the action of a pin on the detent 62, the pin being inserted through a hole (86), (Fig. 5, not shown), in the wall 24. The base (85), (Figs. 2, 3, not shown), of the slot 42 is slightly above the base (84) of the U of the inserted terminal, to prevent over insertion of the board. |
