1,227,396. Flexible abrasive articles. NORTON CO. 6 May, 1968 [12 May, 1967], No. 21404/68. Heading C4V. An abrasive product comprises a flexible backing adhered with adhesive to a foamed material of density 10 to 30 pounds per cubic foot, a 25% compression deflection of 10 to 30 pounds per square inch and a porosity of 55 to 85%, an abrasion-resistant coating completely covering the internal and external surfaces of the foam, and abrasive grain on the foam over the coating, the abrasive density being a minimum at the interface between the foam and the backing and a maximum at the opposite face. The foam, preferably of polyurethane, may be a reconstituted particulate foam and it may be adhered to the backing with a rubber- or neoprene-based adhesive or a self cross-linking acrylic resin. The abrasion-resistant coating may be of a drying oil-modified phenolic or an epoxy resin. The abrasive may be silicon carbide, aluminium oxide, garnet, flint, diamond or emery. |
