1,206,748. Extracting apparatus. COMMISSARIAT A L'ENERGIE ATOMIQUE. 10 March, 1969 [22 March, 1968], No. 12407/69. Heading B1Q. [Also in Divisions C1 and G6] Plutonium or uranium is recovered from calcium fluoride slag derived from the reduction of PuF 4 or UF 4 with metallic calcium by grinding the slag, heating to above 700‹C in furnace 1, discharging through pipe 7 into cooled concentrated nitric acid in vessel 8, and separating the insoluble CaF 2 from the plutonium or uranium solution by means of filter base 11. In the apparatus shown, four reaction .vessels 8, 8'.. are secured to a hub 9 which .can be rotated so that the vessels are used in turn. The nitric acid solution is withdrawn via valve 17 to tank 20, and the CaF 2 residue is washed with concentrated HNO 3 from tank 23.
|
