PURPOSE:To improve reliability and safety of a total device unit by connecting a power unit system, which gives steering assist power, to a manual steering system disconnectably through a clutch and releasing its connection at the time of locking the power unit system. CONSTITUTION:In a manual steering device of an outboard engine, a drag link 9 of a link mechanism 8 is pulled by turn-operating a steering wheel through a cable, thus an outboard engine main unit is turned in right and left directions through a steering bracket 10. Here a power unit 22, which gives steering assist power in a direction equal to manual steering power, is provided in an input end of the link mechanism 8. This power unit 22 is provided with a motor box 23 and a gear box 24 and constituted such that power of a motor is transmitted to a pinion 30, meshed with a rack 26, through an electromagnetic clutch 32. The electromagnetic clutch 32 is controlled so as to be disconnected when the power unit 22 is locked. |
