The invention relates to a motor vehicle headlamp, of the type comprising a casing 10, a glass 20, a reflector 30 and an arc lamp 40 which is removably mounted, as well as means for connecting the lamp with current supply conductors 13, 13'. It is characterised in that the connection means comprise: a first connector 43 integral with the lamp and comprising first contact elements 47a connected to the electrodes of the lamp, a second connector 11 integral with the reflector and comprising second contact elements 12 which, when the lamp is in place, with the two connectors assembled, are coupled respectively to the first contact elements and which, when the lamp is withdrawn, are accessible to a user, and mechanical switching means 14 provided in a region of the lamp which is not immediately accessible, between at least one current supply conductor 13 and at least one of the second contact elements 12, and comprising a mobile actuation element 50 capable of being actuated by the lamp to make electrical contact between the said current supply conductor and the said second contact element when the lamp is fitted, and to break this contact when the lamp is withdrawn. <IMAGE>
