The present invention relates to a method of joining two tubular elements made of plastic, in particular polyethylene, by electrofusion, carried out, for example, by means of a heating wire arranged in a helix and embedded in the coupling, and a self-tightening (automatically clamping) electrofusion coupling for implementing the method. The electrofusion coupling 1 comprises a first, inner sleeve 4 in which the heating wire 5 is embedded and a second, clamping sleeve 6 gripping the first. Thus, by a wedge effect, the sleeve 6 clamps the sleeve 4 onto the ends of the pipes 2 and 3 to be joined, by decreasing the internal diameter of the sleeve 4. The method of joining is therefore particularly simple and reliable and makes it possible to dispense with the injection overmoulding used in most known electrofusion couplings. <IMAGE> |
