Multistage processing of spent small batteries - by comminution and wet chemical treatment

A multistage process for processing spent small batteries involves mechanical comminution followed by disintegration of the resulting heterogeneous mixt., into fractions by chemical-physical washing processes in which the Mn dioxide is chemically reduced and an aq. Mn (II) sulphate soln is produced. ADVANTAGE - The process allows environmental-friendly recovery of most of the battery components (esp. MnO2, Hs, Cd, Zn, Fe, and other metals) for reuse, thus avoiding the costs of special dumps.
