Nuclear waste storage built coupled to power station - has simplified transport and transfer and less shielding problems
摘要
A facility for loading boxed spent nuclear fuel elements into a storage chamber (1) is built in the direct vicinity of an associated nuclear power plant. A curved track (4) connects the two. transport containers (7) containing the boxed fuel elements are taken on the track (4) to equipment which transfers the boxes into the storage chamber. Preferably the transport and transfer of the boxes is remote controlled from room (10) and is at least partly visually supervised. ADVANTAGE - The proximity of the storage chamber to the power station allows less expensive equipment. Measures for protection of the boxes in transport and transfer are made easier and shielding requirements are greatly reduced.
