An air cooled heat exchanger has a number of parallel tubes through which the medium to be cooled flows. These tubes pass through holes (2) in fins arranged parallel and close to each other so that the spaces between the fins form passageways for the air. The surfaces of these fins are embossed with linear, round or polygonal depressions, or the surfaces are roughened. This embossing or roughening of the fin surfaces increases the effective heat transfer area and in addition creates turbulences in the air flow which increases the heat transfer coefficient of the fins.
