A shut-off mechanism for gas transporting pipes used, esp. in biological process technology is new. The mechanism comprises a conical seated valve (20) situated on the outer wall of the reaction container (1). The housing of the valve is located on the container wall and continues as a carved gasifying pipe dipping into the liq. medium in the container. The valve rod axis (A) is extended to hte outer contour of the bent pipe (5) seat in the pipe wall (8). The valve is closable via a valve piston on the valve seat of the conical valve. USE/ADVANTAGE - The valve arrangement allows effective steam sterilisation without contamination.
