摘要 Process for reducing friction in flowing media, pref. in warm- and hot-water systems with temps. up to 180 deg. C, involves converting turbulent flow to laminar flow by addn. of chain-like agglomerate-forming salts of nitrilotriacetic acid (NTA) which become oriented in the direction of flow (I), in amts. of 5-20 mg/kg water depending on the rate of flow. More specifically EDTA is used instead of NTA; further amts. of NTA or EDTA are added when making up subsequent water losses from the system. USE/ADVANTAGE - The invention provides a low-cost process for reducing the hydrodynamic frictional losses which constitute a considerable part of the energy losses in pipeline systems, e.g., long-distance systems. The additives (I) are readily soluble in water, chemically stable even at high temp., and inexpensive; only low concns. of (I) are required.
